Long Day Care Educator

Long Day Care Centres provide education and care for children from birth to 5 years old, usually working longer hours to accommodate working families. As a Long Day Care Educator, you'll give children caring support, initiate educational programs, and assist in children's development in a group environment. You'll need an approved Certificate III or Diploma level qualification to fill this position.

Kindergarten Assistant

Kindergarten Assistants support early childhood teachers in developing play-based learning opportunities to transition children into primary school. They perform a variety of tasks each day, including a combination of supporting classroom activities, setting up equipment and materials, and establishing a safe and stimulating environment for children. Kindergarten sessions are generally set during school hours and provide structured programs that aim to prepare children for school, as opposed to daycare.

Childcare Assistant

Childcare Assistants play a variety of roles to assist early childhood teachers in delivering quality care for children. They facilitate the daily operation of a childcare centre, for example, by monitoring playtime, ensuring that children are safe, and assisting the teacher to carry out developmentally appropriate activities with children. Another major aspect of the job requires the ability to communicate effectively and an interest in supporting children's development.

Early Childhood Educator

Early childhood educators' online courses are responsible for the education and care of children in centres, kindergartens, or preschools. They design and implement educational programs, assess and document children's learning and development, and work in partnership with families to support each child in their learning progression. A qualification is required for this role; at a minimum, a Certificate III qualification is necessary.

There are no formal prerequisites for this course; however, students must meet the following eligibility criteria:

  • Be aged 18 years or older
  • Reside in or be working in Australia
  • Have completed at least Year 10 (or equivalent)
  • Demonstrate basic computer literacy
  • Possess sound Language, Literacy and Numeracy (LLN) skills*
  • Be in good general health and fitness to participate in practical components
  • Hold a current Working With Children Check (WWCC)
  • Provide evidence of required vaccinations, including:
    • Measles-mumps-rubella (MMR) – if non-immune
    • Pertussis (combined with diphtheria and tetanus)
    • Varicella (chickenpox) – if non-immune
    • Influenza
    • Hepatitis A
    • COVID-19

All applicants must complete a pre-enrolment interview via Zoom or Microsoft Teams to assess suitability and identify any required support.

*Applicants who do not meet LLN benchmarks may still be accepted with trainer endorsement and support strategies in place.

Practical Work Placement

  • Vocational Placement Requirement:

    In order to meet the vocational requirements of the course, students are required to undertake 160 hours of compulsory vocational placement in a regulated early childhood education and care service in Australia.

    Working with Children Check (WWCC):

    A Working with Children Check is to be made by the student at the start of the course so that they can undertake a vocational placement.

    Placement Assistance:
    Although students are encouraged to organize their own placement, our staff can help find appropriate vocational placement opportunities if necessary.
